July 6th to July 15th 2012
Day 1: Calgary
Arrival in Calgary. There is enough time to visit some of Calgary’s main attractions such as the Calgary Tower, Canada Olympic Park, Heritage Park, Calgary Zoo, Eau Claire Market, Chinatown – or just stroll along the beautiful Bow River.
Day 2: Calgary Stampede (Chuckwagon race and evening Grandstand Show)
You're invited to attend the largest outdoors rodeo in the world! Professional cowboys compete in a myriad of rodeo events, including bull-riding, chuckwagon racing, st eer wrestling, barrel racing. Don your western duds, saddle up, and join us for Stampede breakfasts galore, square dancing, parades, the fun of the midway, great exhibits, a spectacular Grandstand Show and fireworks, and, of course, heapin' helpings of Western hospitality. Tonigh you will attend the Chuckwagon/Grandstand Show which starts at 8:00 pm. (B)
Day 3: Calgary Stampede (Afternoon Rodeo) / Drive to Banff
Today you have ticket to the afternoon Rodeo which starts at 1:30 pm. After the rodeo you leave the bustling city behind you and drive the 1½ hrs to Banff where you spend 2 nights. (B)
Day 4: Discover Banff region
Today you will enjoy the sheer beauty of the Bow River while you enjoy a one-hour guided paddle in a Voyageur Canoe. Going for a paddle in a 14 passenger Voyageur Canoe is easy, fun and interactive. This afternoon, experience the amazing view from Sulphur Mountain. A gondola will transport you to an elevation of 2,281m above sea level to the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff, offering a 360° view of incredible Rocky Mountain scenery. Tonight, you will then travel to the town of Canmore to watch the award winning OH CANADA EH? dinner show. This is a musical celebration of Canada which provides a truly unforgettable five course Canadian dining experience. (B/D)
)Day 5: Banff / Drive to Kootenay National Park
By the end of the morning you will enjoy the area on a cruise on Lake Minnewanka. Lake Minnewanka is one of Alberta’s largest bodies of water, just ten minutes from Banff. You will cruise beneath the jagged peaks of Mount Aylmer and Mount Inglismaldie, the hoodoo clusters and into Devil’s Gap. In the afternoon you drive to Kootenay National Park to stay at a wilderness lodge. Please plan to be there before 6pm. The drive takes about 2 hours from Banff. Here is an opportunity to spice up your holidays with a short, yet authentic hiking experience in an outstanding natural setting. The program includes some exciting guided hikes during which you will be amazed by the incredible beauty and the wide variety of the mountai n landscapes. During the evenings, you will stay in a cozy log made cabin and would probably like to relax in a wood fire heated Jacuzzi. The cabins are completely isolated from the rest of the world and constitute an excellent starting point to access the famous Banff, Kootenay and Assiniboine parks. (B/D)
Day 6: Kootenay National Park
After a hearty breakfast, our guides will give you safety instructions (including some related to the bears!). The day will then be spent doing a fabulous mountain hike which will lead you to a magnificent unnamed lake, completely forgotten in the heart of the Rockies. Open your eyes widely because the odds of spotting wild animals are excellent! (B/L/D)
Day 7: Departure
This is unfortunately your last day, but you will fully take advantage of your remaining time with a ½ day hike during which the guide will show you some of the most dramatic sceneries or the Rocky Mountains. Among other things, you will have the chance to admire the majestic Mount Assiniboine. End of your adventure after the lunch. In the afternoon you drive back to Calgary and fly back home. Note that you have a approximately 3h00 drive to reach the airport. (B/L)
