City Breaks

Welcome to Hooked on Canada Holidays city breaks or short breaks. At Hooked on  Canada we always try and provide that little something different and with our city breaks there is no exception. Our feeling is that our guest when visiting Canada wish to feel that they are in Canada and not in a hotel which could be located in any city worldwide, the same designed concrete block and the corporate colour schemes. To make your stay different we have tried select accommodation which offers character, offers charm and feels native to the region you are visiting. It has taken us time to select these hotels but we hope that it makes your holiday that little but special.

Below you will find a short review of the cities in which we have selected our accommodation, however we can secure hotels , guest houses , bed and breakfast’s and cottages in most locations in Canada so please email us for details

Toronto Toronto
Cosmopolitan Toronto Canada’s largest city has something for everyone. Over 200 years ago Huron people that lived on the shores of Lake Ontario named this area Toronto meaning ‘meeting place’ . Now it has around 100 different cultures living in the city!. Toronto is a great location for a city break as there is so much to see and do. The CN tower once North America’s tallest building is a must to see and take the lift to the top , feel your stomach left behind as the lift makes it elevation. For the young at heart or thrill seekers there is Canada Wonderland a mass of roller coasters and white knuckle rides. Not far south you can visit by car or on some of the many day trips you can visit Niagara Falls the crescent shaped waterfalls on the US – Canadian border. Take a ride on the maid in the mist the boat which takes you into the splash zone of the falls.
Of course when you mention Toronto you also have to mention shopping as the city is a mass of indoor , underground , over ground shopping malls indeed there are around 20,000 shops to tempt you to spend money.

Quebec Quebec
Quebec City believe it or not was founded in 1608 and is actually the only walled city in North America with cobblestone lanes and quaint 17th and 18th century houses. In 1985 Quebec city was awarded UNESCO world heritage status. The fine art gallery at the Citadel fortress is a must to visit , along with the Basilica and Cycloroma which has attracted many pilgrims over the times. Apart from the old town you can visit the Ile d’Orleans  ( island ) and discover its wonderful architecture , history , culture and heritage. A short trip outside of Quebec and you can visit the stunning Montmorency Falls. Quebec city has been ranked the 4th best tourist destination and the 6th best worldwide city to visit in recent years.

Montreal Montreal
Montreal mixes old world charm with North America’s skyscrapers. In 1642 when Montreal was founded it was a simple missionary village now it is  Canada’s second largest city and the World’s second largest Francophone but everyone also speaks English. It is also a shoppers paradise , it has over 30km of subterranean shopping mall networks , hotels , cinema’s concert halls and restaurants all connected by Montreal’s fast ,clean metro trains. If you do not wish to shop hunt out Montreal’s old quarters which wonderfully contrasts the modern.

 Vancouver Vancouver
Vancouver perched near the edge of the Pacific Ocean in the shadow of the British Columbia mountains. Vancouver is a safe sophisticated garden metropolis that is often called one of the most desirable places in the world to live. Vancouver is a year round destination thanks to its balmy coastal climate. The city scene is very diverse, Chinatown , little India are a day trippers paradise. Just outside the city are the local mountains Cypress , Grouse and Seymour where you can ski , snow board or toboggan after November and in the Spring the hills open up to walking and biking. Out on Vancouver Island , Canada’s largest Pacific Island is Victoria a vibrant city with a wonderful natural setting. Here you can walk in rain forest’s and see wonderful bird life and fauna and even take boat trips out to view whales and wildlife.

Nova Scotia

Eastern Islands
Come and spend your city break in the World by the sea. On the Eastern extremes of Canada are the Islands of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and on the mainland New Brunswick. In all regions you are never far away from the sea. Nova Scotia in particular has 4600 miles of coastline which is split up with little coves , idyllic harbours, sandy beaches and glacier worn cliffs. Here the harbour towns have an old world charm and relaxed way of life perfect for a cultural visit or activity visit.
