Fly Drive/Self Drive in Canada - The Cape Brenton & Newfoundland Experience

At Hooked on Canada Holidays we have a wonderful range of fly drive tours in Canada. We are proud to introduce this fabulous drive vacation which allows you at an easy pace to visit the vibrant cities of Halifax in Nova Scotia and and St John’s in Newfoundland, the magnificent Louisbourg Fortress, to hike trails in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, to explore Gros Morne National Park, to discover the wide open spaces of Newfoundland and so much more!

Day 1 - Halifax Taylor  Head Nova Scotia
Fly into Halifax and pick up your Rental Car.  If you have time start to discover the thrilling region of Halifax and its surroundings.

Day 2 - Halifax to Sydney 250 miles 400km
Today you will drive north across Nova Scotia in order to reach Sydney, the largest city in Cape Breton Island. It is a fabulous drive, always not far from the sea and the breathtaking coastline which has made Nova Scotia a stunning place to visit.

Day 3 - Sydney to Stephenville 122miles 195km ( + 7 hours by ferry)
From Sydney, you will take the ferry to Port-aux-Basques in Newfoundland. In the 16th century, Port-aux-Basques was a fishing port used by the French, the Portuguese and of course the Basque. You will pass your first night on Newfoundland soil in the Acadian village of Stephenville not far along the west coast of Newfoundland.

Day 4 and 5 - Stephenville to Rocky Harbour 125 miles 200km
Now a nice relaxed time with two days to explore the local region. We highly suggest that you spend at least one day to visit spectacular Gros Morne National Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.  Here if you are felling active you can hike, swim, bike, sail, kayak, whale watch and much more, or if you are felling in a relaxed mood just park up in the Park wonder at the stunning scenery and let the time go by, thinking of the delicious seafood dinner later!

Day 6 - Rocky Harbour to Lewisport 213 miles 340km Gros Moore Newfoundland
Lewisports is an ideal starting point from which you can explore the rugged and picturesque landscapes on central Newfoundland. The area is also renowned for its whale and Iceberg watching cruises.

Day7 - Lewisport to Clarenville 128 miles 205km
The Clarenville area features typical Newfoundland seascapes and will delight the nature enthusiasts looking for amazing walking opportunities if it is a relaxing short walk or a full blown hike you will find it all.

Day 8 to 9 - Clarenville to St-John’s 118 miles 188km
Today you continue east towards St John’s. The provincial capital and its vicinities have a lot to offer, a thrilling animation, numerous historical sites, a rich museum, etc. You will also be amazed by its legendary pubs! Don’t miss the Cape Spear National Historic Site which constitutes the most easterly point in North America and home to the oldest existing lighthouse in Newfoundland. Watch for whales and icebergs from this beautiful point!

Day 10 and 11 - St-John’s to Sydney 88 miles 140km (14 hours by ferry)
Board the 09:00 ferry to Nova Scotia where you’ll arrive in late evening. During your stay in Cape Breton Island, We suggest strongly that you take some time to visit Fortress of Louisbourg which will literally take you back to the French Regime era!

Day 12 - Sydney to Ingonish 78 miles 124km Gros Moore Newfoundland
Today a short drive up the coast to Ingonish . Discover beautiful Ingonish and witness dramatic scenery along the famous Cabot Trail.

Day 13 - Ingonish to Baddeck 57 miles 91km
Located on the shores of the Bras d’Or Lake, this beautiful quaint town  definitely worth a visit!

Day 14 - Baddeck to Halifax 218 miles 350km
Back to Halifax and your chance to check out this wonderful city.

Day 15 Halifax
Drop off your rental car
